How to Book a Florida Medicaid Ride in Brevard County
The correct ride number usually comes from the member’s current Medicaid managed-care plan—not a single Brevard-wide dispatcher.
Start here
Check the member ID card or Florida Medicaid Member Portal for the current managed-care plan, then call that plan’s transportation number. Florida Medicaid covers medically necessary non-emergency transportation for eligible recipients who have no other transportation to a Medicaid-covered service; the plan can tell you its advance-notice and escort rules.
What to have in front of you
- Medicaid member ID and managed-care plan card
- Pickup address and safe contact number
- Provider name, address, phone, appointment date, check-in time, and expected length
- Mobility device, wheelchair-accessible vehicle, attendant, escort, or language needs
- Return-trip instructions and appointment frequency for repeating treatment
What to say when someone answers
“I need to schedule non-emergency transportation to a Medicaid-covered appointment. Please confirm the reservation deadline, pickup window, return-trip method, accessibility needs, escort rules, and trip confirmation number.”
Small but useful: Write down the person’s name, the date, the exact next step, and when you should call again.
Do this in order
- 1
Identify the active plan from the member card or Member Portal; do not rely on an old card.
- 2
Call as far ahead as the plan requires. Ask what happens if the appointment is urgent and falls inside the normal notice period.
- 3
Give the check-in time—not only the doctor’s start time—and state every mobility or supervision need.
- 4
Repeat back both addresses, date, pickup window, return instructions, and confirmation number. Call the provider if the ride timing affects check-in.
What happens next
The plan or its transportation vendor verifies eligibility and the destination, then assigns the trip. A personal care attendant or escort may be covered when required. Authorization is not a guarantee that a specific vehicle arrives exactly at the requested minute.
If the first answer doesn’t solve it
Ask for the plan transportation supervisor and a same-day escalation. If the member is not in managed care, the Medicaid Helpline can identify the fee-for-service NEMT vendor. Do not use non-emergency transportation for a medical emergency; call 911.
