Quick answer

Start here

Eligible ADA or TD paratransit riders can reserve a medical trip by calling the Space Coast Area Transit RideLine at 321-635-1878. Current SCAT guidance says to reserve by 2 p.m. the day before; ADA trips may be scheduled up to 14 days ahead.

What to have in front of you

  • Rider name and paratransit eligibility information
  • Exact pickup and destination addresses, including building or suite
  • Appointment time, how early check-in begins, and expected end time
  • Mobility device details and whether a PCA or companions are riding
  • A callback number and the name of the medical office

What to say when someone answers

“I need a round trip for a medical appointment. The appointment is at [time], check-in is at [time], and the rider uses [mobility device]. One PCA will travel. What pickup window can you offer, what is the return plan, and what number do we call if the appointment runs late?”

Small but useful: Write down the person’s name, the date, the exact next step, and when you should call again.

Do this in order

  1. 1

Call as soon as the appointment is scheduled. Do not wait until the day before if the time is important.

  2. 2

Give the arrival-by time, not only the appointment time. Confirm the pickup window and fare.

  3. 3

Say whether a personal care attendant is required. SCAT says one PCA rides free; companions pay their own fare and use the same pickup and drop-off.

  4. 4

Write down the reservation confirmation, pickup window, return arrangement, and late-ride number.

What happens next

Paratransit is shared-ride transportation, so the exact requested time may be negotiated. ADA service generally covers eligible trips within three-quarters of a mile of fixed routes during corresponding service hours.

If they say “we’ll put you on the list”

Ask for the nearest workable pickup window and whether another day or location has better availability. For an essential medical trip that paratransit cannot cover, ask about Volunteers in Motion at 321-635-7999 and call the medical office about rescheduling before missing the visit.
