Brevard Achievement Center’s WIPA program provides free benefits counseling for eligible SSI and SSDI beneficiaries who are working, have a job offer, or have a specific work goal.
What to have in front of you
- The notice, bill, decision, or discharge paperwork connected to the problem
- The person’s full name, date of birth, address, insurance information, and identification
- A short timeline with dates, names, phone calls, and what changed
- Copies of medical, school, financial, or care records that directly support the request
What to say when someone answers
“I receive SSI or SSDI and have a specific job goal or offer. I need a benefits analysis covering cash benefits, Medicare or Medicaid, and work incentives.”
Small but useful: Write down the person’s name, the date, the exact next step, and when you should call again.
Do this in order

Gather benefit notices, recent pay stubs, insurance information, and details of the job or goal.

Call WIPA and explain the concrete work decision you are making.

Ask for a written Benefits Summary and Analysis or equivalent plan.

Update the counselor before major changes in hours, pay, self-employment, or medical coverage.
What happens next
A certified counselor reviews the programs and explains reporting duties, likely benefit changes, and available work incentives.
If they say “we’ll put you on the list”
If WIPA cannot take the referral yet, call the Ticket to Work Help Line or Florida Vocational Rehabilitation and ask for a benefits-planning referral.
