How to Apply for Florida’s Medicare Savings Program
These programs may pay Medicare premiums and, for QMB, Medicare cost-sharing—but Florida must approve the application.

Apply through Florida DCF’s MyACCESS portal and select Medicaid assistance for an aged or disabled person, or use DCF’s paper or community-partner application routes. You can also apply for Medicare Part D Extra Help through Social Security; unless you opt out, Social Security sends information to Florida to initiate a Medicare Savings Program application.
What to have in front of you
- Medicare card and Social Security number—share only through an official secure channel
- Proof of Florida address and identity
- Social Security, pension, wages, veterans benefits, and other income
- Recent bank, investment, retirement-account, life-insurance cash-value, and other resource records
- Health insurance premiums and any DCF verification request
What to say when someone answers
“I have Medicare and want to apply for every Medicare Savings Program I may qualify for. Which MyACCESS benefit selection should I use, what income and resource records are required, and how will I know the application is complete?”
Small but useful: Write down the person’s name, the date, the exact next step, and when you should call again.
Do this in order

Use MyACCESS, a DCF Family Resource Center, a community partner, or the current paper Government Assistance Application. Applying is free.

Answer every household, income, insurance, and asset question. If an item does not apply, mark it rather than leaving the question unexplained.

Upload requested proof with the case or ACCESS number on each page and save the submission confirmation.

Watch MyACCESS and the mail for verification requests, interview instructions, and the eligibility notice. Respond by the stated date.
What happens next
DCF determines whether the person qualifies for QMB, SLMB, QI, or another Medicaid-related category. Approval may affect the Part B premium and can confer Extra Help. The effective date and exact benefit appear in the written notice; do not stop paying bills based only on an application.
