How to Apply for Florida Vocational Rehabilitation Services
Florida VR can help an eligible person prepare for, get, keep, regain, or advance in employment.

Start an application through Florida Vocational Rehabilitation and ask to be connected to the office serving Brevard County. The process includes an intake, eligibility decision, and—if eligible—an individualized employment plan based on the person’s work goal and disability-related barriers.
What to have in front of you
- Photo ID, Social Security number, address, and contact information
- Medical, psychological, school, or benefits records showing disability
- Work history, résumé, education, and certifications
- A description of job tasks made difficult by the disability
- Any IEP, transition plan, accommodation history, or Ticket to Work contact
What to say when someone answers
“I want to apply for VR services because a disability creates barriers to employment. My current work goal is [goal]. Please schedule intake, tell me what records are needed, and explain the eligibility and planning timeline.”
Small but useful: Write down the person’s name, the date, the exact next step, and when you should call again.
Do this in order

Contact the office serving the home county and complete the application and intake.

Provide records VR requests, but ask whether it can obtain existing records instead of paying for new testing.

Explain functional barriers with concrete work examples and discuss an employment goal.

Review the written eligibility decision and proposed employment plan before agreeing to services.
What happens next
VR determines whether the person has a disability-related impediment to employment and requires VR services. Eligible applicants work with a counselor on an individualized plan; available services depend on that plan.
If they say “we’ll put you on the list”
Ask for the status and next written decision. If routine channels fail, Florida VR lists an ombudsman at 1-866-515-3692. Keep Social Security work-benefit questions separate and request benefits counseling when needed.
