Steps in order

Do not cancel or enroll in a plan before the counselor reviews the dates and consequences.

Ask whether a deadline, appeal, or enrollment period applies.

If comparing plans, check prescriptions, pharmacies, doctors, prior authorization, and total yearly cost.

Write down the counselor’s name and the action you agreed to take.

If a deadline is close, say the exact date at the start of the call. Also call the number on the notice when the notice requires a direct appeal or response.
